waiting for saturday : monica paolini

sea's co-founder monica paolini's dream saturday does not involve pedicures

February 28, 2017

Monica Paolini radiates positivity—a rare trait in New Yorkers and an even rarer trait in a working parent to a one-year old. As co-founder of the clothing line, Sea (if you're not familiar think vintage-y, romantic pieces that make you feel like a French ingenue) and mother to now 14-month old son, Luca, you'd imagine there are plenty of reasons to be a little less than joyful. Yet her genuine smile, infectious laugh and easygoing demeanor don't even hint at the inevitable stresses we suspect she manages daily. A hectic schedule—even one that takes her to the office on Saturdays—is its own form of balance, she explains; she and her husband Eric make it work with lots of visits to the Sea studios and late dinners with Luca. We'll let her explain, below.

february at the wfs shop: pink everything for your favorite galentines

February 7, 2017

The way you approach Valentine's Day is often indicative of the stage of life you're in. In grade school it's all paper doilies and conversational hearts and secret admirers. Then in college it's meaningless because...too cool. While dating it's met with quiet and secret anticipation and the smallest gestures—flowers, a funny card, a favorite sweet—are so exciting. But then, well, you get to a new stage. The VDay autopilot: flowers, nice dinner, gift. And usually it's fun, maybe cute, but doesn't mean a ton to either of you. It does, however, suddenly feel very apropos to celebrate the other loves of your life at this time: Your gal pals. Thankfully Galentine's Day is now a thing—and honestly Coco and I are pretty good at knowing which piece of jewelry or even lingerie the other'd like best, and we imagine many of you are in the same boat with your best buds. So we shopped for our friends this month and ran with an unapologetic color code (because, obviously).

saturday shot #93

February 4, 2017

Another week down, friends—let us remind you in the face of your mile long to-do list (like calling your reps, protesting, planning your run for office...) you also need to take time for self care. Indulging in anything that makes you feel inspired, excited, and of course, relaxed is so very important right now. Here, a few well-deserved reads to help you with that.

coco's trip through ireland in all its green, lush, candlelit glory

January 24, 2017

Coco and her husband spent a few weeks driving (on the left side!) around Ireland. The trip was part of their roots tour—AKA visiting the places their ancestors hail from. It's a lovely impetus for a trip, and particularly when the location you end up in is as lush and rugged and this. Here's the lowdown in her words.

saturday with artist julie houts: turner classic movies, german art, and spicy queso

January 11, 2017

The word "hilarious" is likely the one that gets thrown around the most when describing artist Julie Houts. If you follow her on Instagram you've had the pleasure of double tapping (and probably tagging all your friends) when she posts because, well, she draws humor out of seemingly everything—even some really dark and arguably controversial stuff—somehow able to present a familiar though seldom-shared internal monologue. We wondered how it'd be to sit down with her for an afternoon, since she seems to parody so many of the subjects we dutifully address here at wfs: Guilty pleasures, binge watching, off-duty style... Her take on all, below.

january at the wfs shop: classics for the new year (and many, many years after)

January 3, 2017

Despite the rain in NYC, 2017 feels like it's off to a pretty great start. Resolutions aside—because does anyone actually keep them?—there is a desire for a reset in the air that we can get behind. Consume less, consume smarter feels like one of the many mantras running through our heads. So we tasked ourselves with creating a shoppable place for things that seem to define "smart buy." You'll find a mix of items that have stood the test of time for years—Repetto flats, Converse high tops, Levi's denim, J.Crew blazers—and what we're calling "new classics" that have in the past couple of years become as iconic as the designers behind them. In this camp: Jesse Kamm's culottes, Rachel Comey's Legion jeans, Clare V's Tropezienne tote, and Nick Fouquet's splurgy (but oh-so-amazing) hats. Get in there and start refreshing your closet, Kondo-style. And by that we mean: Why own 5 so-so skinny jeans when Madewell's perfect pair is within grasp?
