5 off-duty beauty products (megan, part 2)

July 25, 2014

Is there anything better than a recommendation from someone you can say, without fail, knows her shit? In that she's-tried-everything-but-this-is-the-one kind of way? Megan is one of those people that can dole out recs like this. She's been testing products as a beauty editor for years for her day job, so it's the stuff she commits to after hours that we really, really wanted to know about. We asked her for a list, she sent one.

1. Coola Sport SPF 30 Pina Colada Sunscreen Spray This stuff instantly sinks in and leaves behind this beautiful gleam. Plus, it's totally organic—which is a feat for sunscreen (it's ordinarily packed with chemicals). And it's pina colada-scented, but the smell is very faint and fades to nothing very soon.

2. Ling Ginseng Therapy Moisture Mask Ling Chan is the only aesthetician I get facials from these days—she is magical. She has this amazingly zen spa right off Union Square, and     it's a Iittle oasis. She has her own line—I love this super-hydrating mask filled with flower extracts, ginseng and aloe. I massage it into my face after my shower before bed. It's sort of thick, so it's not for day time, but my skin feels plumped and utterly pampered and soft in the morning.

3. Kiehl's Crème de Corps body lotion Creamy, nourishing, softening, meringue-colored heaven! Great for summer and for winter.  The mother of all moisturizers.

4. . Wei East Lip Sensation Daily Wear This is honestly the best surprise. The tube has mysterious Chinese letters on it, and the lipstick inside looks like this humdrum balm—but it's mood lipstick! Like the rings you wore in 6th grade. The formula reacts with your body's own pH balance and shows up a different color on everyone. I dab it on, spread it around with my finger and it gradually becomes this wild shocking pink.

5. Orgo Face Sunscreen I just want to feel like I'm not wearing sunscreen—or anything—on my face. But, you know, it's a crime to bask in the sun unprotected unless you want to be a wrinkly, leather-face lady—so I spritz this on. It is light like no other SPF. It feels like total nothingness. I love the sun so much.
